The role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Electronics Engineer to lead the development of the electronic systems that drive our innovative precision pesticide sprayer. This is a unique opportunity to use your experience to push the boundaries of AI enabled, smart products in the agriculture industry and, in doing so, become an integral part of the Cordon team.
As a Senior Electronics Engineer at Cordon, you will be stepping into a pivotal role at a critical moment in our growth. Your mission will be to lead the development of the electronic systems that are the heart of our innovative agricultural solutions. Success in this role means having designed and implemented robust, efficient electronic systems that are performant, reliable, and produced on time and on budget. By your one-year mark, your contributions will have played a significant role in advancing our product development, readying our technology for market introduction.
This is primarily an on-site role due to the nature of the work however there is the opportunity for some hybrid work.
Key responsibilities:

Oversee the entire lifecycle of electronics system product development, from concept through production, including prototyping, testing, and validation in real-world agricultural settings.

Lead the electronic engineering sub-team, being responsible for Sensors, Control Electronics, Cabling, Power Electronics, Motor Control, and Battery systems.

Take a lead role in the specification, requirements capture and design of production-ready, scalable electronics systems.

Collaborate closely with other functions including mechanical engineers, software developers, and others to deliver integrated solutions that meet our product goals.

Develop strong relationships with key external suppliers and potential partners.

Help with prototype and product assembly, conduct testing, validation, and troubleshooting of electronic systems to ensure performance and reliability at our workshop and at test and customer vineyards.

Document designs, specifications, test procedures, and results for internal and external stakeholders.

We're looking for someone who:

Embodies our core values of curiosity, problem solving, resilience, humility, emotional intelligence, and commitment to collaboration.

Holds a Bachelor's, Master's, or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field, with at least 5 years of experience in fast-paced electronics design, development, and testing environment.

Excels in a dynamic environment, demonstrating adaptability and a customer-focused approach to problem-solving.

Been instrumental in product delivery in the Agri-tech, robotics, consumer electronics, automotive or other similar industries.

Has experience with sensor integration, power electronics, and motor control in real-time embedded systems.

Brings strong knowledge of communication protocols (UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet etc) and wireless technologies (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LoRa etc).

Brings proficiency in PCB design, firmware and bring-up.

Has excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Has excellent communication skills, capable of documenting and presenting ideas clearly.
Desirable characteristics
- Expertise in Process Control development for internal and external use.
- Harness design experience- Familiarity with high-speed digital design.
- Experience in PCB test jig development for production.
- A willingness to mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
- A strong interest in sustainable agriculture.

Salary Range: Around £55,000 depending on experience.

If you are successful at this stage, we'll arrange an initial phone/video call where one of the team will explain the position, introduce Cordon and get to know a little bit more about you (30 minutes).
Successful candidates at this stage will then be invited to an on-site interview, including hands-on activity, and presentation of a previously prepared technical task. They will also meet the rest of the team with tea/coffee (2.5 hours).
